Jack the cat, owned by Karen Pascoe, had been missing for two months while his owner was en route from New York to San Francisco to start a new job. Instead of flying in the pet travel container the cat disappeared from it before its scheduled flight. Pascoe's other cat, Barry, was also traveling and arrived safely.
On Tuesday, Oct. 25, Jack was discovered alive somewhere inside the confines of New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport's customs room according to American Airlines. The cat developed a fatty liver disease when not getting enough food.
The Department of Transportation Pet Incident Report released how Jack was able to escape. A clerk stacked the carrier's one on top of each other. The top one fell down releasing the door for Jack to get away.
Thanks to the marvels of microchip implants Jack and Pascoe will be reunited when it gets healthier at a local New York veterinarian office. Other pets have been separated from their owners and miraculously found, thanks to a microchip implanted between their shoulder blades.
Dog Gone for Two Years - California to Florida
The Baetge family from Sacramento, California owned a Chihuahua-mix breed dog named Cooper. Cody, 16 and Natalie, 7 received the dog from their grandfather who was terminally ill. In 2009 Cooper went missing after they discovered their gate was left open. The family never gave up searching during the two years until a phone call came from all places, 3,000 miles away in Brandon, Florida.
Two good Samaritans found Cooper shivering during a rain storm on Sept. 22. The dog was taken to an animal hospital where it was discovered the dog had a microchip. No one knows how Cooper went from California to Florida.
Himalayan Cat Missing for Two Years - Florida
It is always heartbreaking seeing homemade flyers and posters of people's missing pets. This is what happened to Deitra Jones when her pure breed cat Fluffy, a Himalayan, went missing in Oldsmar, Florida. In 2008 Fluffy wandered outside and never returned. Jones went door-to-door in the neighborhood, put up flyers and contacted a pet psychic. Two years later in 2010 while on vacation in Costa Rica she received an email Fluffy was found, thanks in part to getting Fluffy a microchip.
Dog Found in Detroit Suburb 4 Months Later - Tennessee to Michigan
Talk about a man's best friend when Petey, a 4-year-old Russell Terrier, went missing from its owner, Jim Arrighi. Petey and Arrighi, 71, live in the town of Erin, just outside Nashville, Tennessee. Every morning while Arrighi had his coffee Petey would sit on his lap until the dog disappeared four months ago in April 2011. Petey has a microchip, but the owner still put out flyers, ads and a Facebook page. No leads came until a Michigan Humane Society called to inform Petey was found in Rochester Hills, 20 miles north of Detroit.
