Cecilia Vega, Tom Llamas Named Weekend Anchors at ABC’s ‘World News Tonight’

ABC News named Cecilia Vega and Tom Llamas anchors of the weekend edition of “World News Tonight,” making official the posts the pair have actually been filling since former weekend anchor David Muir became anchor of the weekday program.

Vega, an Emmy Award winner, joined ABC News in 2011, after working for San Francisco’s KGO. She will relocate to New York City from the West Coast and will jointly serve as a senior national correspondent. Llamas, a Murrow Award recipient, had served as the co-anchor of the 5 p.m. newscast for NBC 4 in New York and also as a contributing correspondent for NBC News.

In a memo to staffers ABC News President James Goldston said the pair would join the unit’s political team, expected to gain more of the spotlight as preparations for the 2016 election moves into gear.
