Celebrate National Cat Day With MashCats

    1. Griffy

This is Griffy, who's formal name is Gryffindor, named after one of the four houses at Hogwarts. We adopted him when he was two, and he's become the sweetest, most loving kitty we ever had. He sleeps curled up in my son's legs each night, on his bed when my son is away, and hangs out in the office with us when we're working from home. He enjoys curling up on the couch and watching football with the guys on Sunday and hanging out on our screened-in porch where he can watch the squirrels and birds all day long. -Andrea Smith is Mashable's Lifestyle editor

Here at Mashable we can't decide if we love cats for the way they play with tech, how emotional they can be or maybe just because they think they can haz newz. But we're done questioning our love for cats, because when we found out Monday is National Cat Day, we were pawsitivly ecstatic.

Founded in 2005 as a day to bring awareness to the millions of sheltered cats in need of a good home, National Cat Day is celebrated on Oct. 29. Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige hopes that National Cat Day will help facilitate the adoption of more than 10,000 sheltered cats nationwide.

To show our support (and to get back at our co-workers who get to bring their dogs to work in this dog-friendly office), we'd like to introduce you to our family of MashCats. If you want to have your cat become an honorary member of our family of furry felines, tweet us your purr-fect photos with the hashtag #mashcats. Tell us their name and age and we'll publish some of the pictures we get in a future post!
