    CHANGE IN TUNE

The music at the Horse Guards Parade beach volleyball venue on Day 1 ran the gamut of Led Zeppelin to Latin Salsa — all the things one might expect at a giant beach party.

There was a change of pace on Sunday when the Band of the Grenadier Guards showed up with the bright red coats and black fur hats one associates with British pomp. A few dozen members of the ensemble gathered outside the stadium and later played for the assembled crowd.

The heavy wool outfits were a stark contrast to the bikinis worn by the athletes and the dance team that had been entertaining the beach volleyball fans. But the Guards managed to fit right in with a Beatles offering: "Hey Jude."
