Chargers add former Saints corneback Patrick

The Chargers on Wednesday claimed cornerback Johnny Patrick, who was put on waivers by the New Orleans Saints.

Patrick was a third-round pick out of the University of Louisville for the Saints in 2011, but the 24-year-old struggled, like much of the rest of the New Orleans defense. In two seasons, Patrick totaled 30 tackles and two pass breakups with the Saints.

"San Diego thanks for the opportunity I am ready to get back to work....," Patrick said on Twitter.

San Diego might need to rebuild its defensive backfield as both Antoine Cason and Quentin Jammer likely will become free agents. That will leave the Chargers with only Marcus Gilchrist and Shareece Wright as experienced corners in the San Diego system.
