Charity Miles review

Charity Miles is an app that allows people to earn money for their favorite charities by tracking their exercise activities. The app's creators have obtained a number of corporate sponsors who will pay money for every mile ran, walked, or biked.

Pros

Charity selection: When you first log in to the app, there are 28 charities to choose from, so you can run to support a cause near to your heart. These include Special Olympics, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and Habitat for Humanity.

Ease of use: Once you've signed up, the app works very well. You just click on your charity of choice and stop running. One swipe will show you who you're supporting with your run and who the corporate sponsors are. Another swipe will allow you to pause your workout if you need to.

Great design: This app was clearly built by professionals. The design is very attractive and easy to read.

Cons

Battery drain: All apps that run constant GPS drain your battery very quickly. This is no exception, and, if anything, the app seems to put a heavier drain than normal on the battery of the phone.

Zip code: The app requires you to enter a zip code when you sign up. It requires a US zip code to sign up, which makes the app essentially useless for international users.

Bottom Line

If you're someone who walks, bikes, or runs on a regular basis, this app provides you with the ability to support a good cause while you do so. It is easy to use, and for the small amount of time it takes to sign up compared to the good you can do while using it, it seems like an app every fitness enthusiast should have.
