Shafer’s Tours’ IT team was exploring content filtering solutions for two dissimilar networks: their corporate network, where they needed to ensure employees were protected from accessing inappropriate or malicious websites, and the Wi-Fi hotspots on their fleet of more than a dozen luxury motor coaches, where they were plagued by unusually high bandwidth consumption. Additionally, they were continually working to improve network security and eradicate troublesome malware. Because each security condition would traditionally call for a different solution, the Shafer’s Tours IT Team was exploring a wide range of options and considering multiple purchases.
Prior to deploying OpenDNS Enterprise, the team was manually regulating access to sites on its corporate network using a painful and time-intensive process that involved blacklisting individual domains through a proxy. Although the team was able to exert some minimal control over the corporate network through this process, they found it cost prohibitive to secure the bus fleet’s Wi-Fi hotspots.
