RUGBY UNION’S LOSS looks to be rugby league’s gain with Kiwi schoolboy Nelson Asofa-Solomona set to join NRL side Melbourne Storm. The 17-year-old has been one of the most talked about players in ‘First XV’ rugby in New Zealand, largely due to his 6ft 8ins and 118kg frame.
Asofa-Solomona has been playing at lock or in the back row for Wellington College, but his speed and explosive power mean he could easily feature in the backs too. The youngster apparently clocked a yo-yo test score of 19.2 this year, which would have put him among the fittest in the senior All Blacks set-up.
Several Super Rugby franchises were understood to have had an interest in the New Zealander, but it is league side the Storm who have won the battle and Asofa-Solomona says he wants to be playing in the NRL as soon as possible. Physical specimens like him don’t come along too often, so check out the video and tell your friends to look out for Nelson Asofa-Solomona.
