Checkers 4, Wolves 3 (OT)
ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Chicago Wolves fought back from an early two-goal deficit but fell 4-3 in overtime to the Charlotte Checkers on Thursday night at Allstate Arena.
Chicago nearly killed off an overtime penalty but Charlotte left wing Chris Terry whipped a puck into the top shelf past Wolves goaltender Matt Climie 1:25 into the extra period to give Charlotte the win.
The Wolves (23-16-4-2) sent the game to overtime with 1:50 left in regulation as forward Darren Haydar scored the tying goal.
Checkers goalie Justin Peters faced 13 first-period shots, but Charlotte (29-16-2-3) scored first. Charlotte forward Nicholas Blanchard was able to take a cross-crease feed and jam it past Climie at 8:36 of the first period.
The Checkers doubled their lead just over three minutes later. Climie (11-12-2) left his crease to play a puck behind the net and inadvertently gave it away to Charlotte left wing Justin Soryal, who promptly scored his first goal of the season.
Chicago forward Andrew Gordon scored a power-play goal to pull the Wolves within 2-1, batting a puck out of the air and past Peters at 5:10 into the second period.
The Checkers responded with their own power-play goal as center Riley Nash redirected a point shot by defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani past Climie's glove at 6:59 to take a 3-1 lead.
The Wolves pulled back within 3-2 as forward Anton Rodin played a trickling pass from Tim Miller and caught Peters out of position to rifle home his third score of the season with 4:41 left in the second.
