Cheers To 2016: Lil Wayne And Birdman Brought In The New Year Together

Add another round to this legal bout.

It looks like Lil Wayne and Birdman are turning over a new leaf for 2016.

The year 2015 was a trying one for Lil Wayne and his Cash Money boss, Birdman. The two’s “father/son” relationship hit some turbulent waters after Wayne closed out 2014 with a public outcry against the label and its CEO. After spending months and months on the outs, however, it looks like things are finally getting back to normal. In a New Year’s Instagram post from Drake – who rang in 2016 at the E11EVEN nightclub in Miami – the rapper shared a photo from the festivities that included Weezy and Baby, together once again:

Wayne and Birdman’s troubled waters stemmed from the delay of his highly-anticipated Tha Carter V album. After alleging that he was not paid his due royalties for the project as well as other terms of their lengthy contractual agreement, Wayne hit Birdman with a whopping $51 million lawsuit. Weezy also blamed Birdman for missing royalties on behalf of Drake and Nicki Minaj, who were also supposedly missing out on some cash. In an interview with Angie Martinez, Birdman claimed that things between him and his “son” were not as bad as they seemed.

“It’s not considered bad to me. I think media makes it worse than it really is,” he told the Power 105.1 host. “In due time we gon’ [reconcile], but this ain’t the place or the time to do that. My son respect me enough [that] if I call him and tell him I’m about to pull up, he gon’ open that gate, I’m goin in that house, we gon talk.”

Looks like Birdman was right; things weren’t as bad as we all thought they were. Cheers to the mending of the Cash Money/Young Money empire in 2016.
