Chemical in W.Va. spill taken to another site
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The company at the center of a chemical spill in West Virginia says it has removed the rest of the foaming agent to prevent any more from escaping.
Gary Southern, president of Freedom Industries, addressed a news conference on Friday.
He says that after the leak was discovered Thursday the company worked all day and through the night to remove the chemical from the site and take it elsewhere. He says he believes the work will prevent any more of it from leaving the facility.
Southern says the chemical used in coal processing isn't a danger to the public.
Neither authorities nor the company know how much of the chemical leaked into the Elk River.
Officials have told people around West Virginia's capital city not to drink tap water or use it for bathing or laundry until further notice.
