Chicago film festival to honor Bruce Dern

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago International Film Festival is honoring actor Bruce Dern with its Career Achievement Award this year.

Dern will receive the award Wednesday at the festival's presentation of his latest film, director Alexander Payne's "Nebraska."

Dern won the best actor award at this year's Cannes Film Festival for his performance in the black-and-white film. He plays an aging father whose son drives him from Montana to Nebraska because he believes he's won $1 million in a mass mailing.

The festival says it is honoring Dern for his "outstanding and diverse work." Dern has had a decades-long career with roles in movies including "The Great Gatsby," ''Monster" and "Coming Home," which earned him an Academy Award nomination.
