Chicago to remember famed chef Charlie Trotter
CHICAGO (AP) — A who's who of the culinary world is gathering at a Chicago church for a memorial to celebrity chef Charlie Trotter.
Hundreds of mourners at Fourth Presbyterian Church on Monday included chefs Graham Elliott and Norman Van Aken, as well as several others wearing white chef's coats.
Friends and colleagues talked about Trotter's prowess in the kitchen, but also how he mentored students and opened his kitchen to the less-fortune.
Trotter ran his namesake restaurant for 25 years, helping put Chicago at the vanguard of the food world.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said dining at Trotter's restaurant was a "once-in-a-lifetime visit," because of its unique and changing menu.
Trotter died last week at a Chicago hospital after paramedics found him unresponsive at his home. He was 54.
