With Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, everyone's talking about chicken wings, one of the favorite things to nosh on while watching the game and commercials. And what better place to get some fantastic wings than in one of the greatest food cities in the world? Chicago doesn't disappoint when it comes to wings; we even have the world-famous WingFest.
Here's a look at five of the best places around the Chicago area to get a great basket of wings to go for game day. No matter where you get your wings from, be sure to call ahead and order early. Have another great suggestion? Put it in the comments.
If you're looking for great wings, Bird's Nest tops everyone's list in the Lincoln Park area. Their trademark wings are crispy on the outside, and they have a variety of sauces to choose from. My recommendation would be the "Bird's Nest Hot." The Sunday special is 45-cent wings, so load up for the game!
1841 W. Howard St., Chicago
Up north, there's Buffalo Joe's, home of the "Best Buffalo Wings in Chicago." You have to get some with their special "Suicide Sauce" for the full effect. For carryout, be sure to call ahead, because this place is going to be the hot spot on Sunday. There are also two locations in Evanston.
Let's give Pilsen a little love and talk about Take Me Out's trademark lollipop-style wings that they call "Little Hotties." If the Asian wing flavors are your thing, this is your stop. With super inexpensive wings and so many different flavors, if you're in the neighborhood, this is your definite wing stop.
Watching the game in Edgewater and looking to go a little outside the traditional wing box? Dak Korean has been getting tons of buzz lately for their wings, which are crispy with excellent breading and two sauce choices. Definitely go with the soy-ginger sauce, because it will change the way you eat wings forever. At only $5, you can't go wrong.
1017 Front St., Lisle
If you're going to be out in the suburbs, Evviva in Lisle is where you want to pick up your wings. Located just off downtown and right across the street from the Metra, this blink-and-you'll-miss-it bar has great traditional wings, as well as their very own "Vesuvio" variety in a white wine herb sauce if you're looking to be a little different and fancy. They also have a location in Wheaton.
You don't have to do the big chain restaurants on Super Bowl Sunday to get great wings for your party. Take advantage of one of the best cities for eating in the world, and get some awesome Chicago wings. Our team's not in the game, but our wings win every time.
