Chile asks extradition of alleged ex-guerrilla

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — Chile is asking Germany to extradite a French woman accused of involvement in a guerrilla group's murder of a conservative Chilean politician.

Marie Emmanuelle Verhoeven was arrested in Germany while trying to board a flight in late January and the Chilean court voted Friday to seek her extradition.

The 54-year-year-old has been wanted since 1996 on an international arrest warrant for the 1991 slaying of Jaime Guzman, leader of the conservative Chilean party Independent Democratic Union.

She's accused of murder, forming a terrorist organization and grievous bodily harm resulting in death.

Verhoeven allegedly was a member of the Manuel Rodriguez Patriotic Front set up in the 1980s to fight the 1973-90 dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet.
