Video recorded by the nanny-cam and released by the NYPD shows the man crawling into the bedroom, where he slowly made his way over to a dresser and took a Samsung S6 cellphone.

Police say didn't make off with much more because the 42-year-old man asleep in the room awoke and the suspect ran off.

The victim's wife told NBC 4 New York that the couple's three children, all between three and six years old, were asleep in the other bed shown in the video.

When she first sensed someone crawling on the floor, she thought it may have been one of her children, she told NBC. She said that he appeared to be carrying a knife in his mouth as he moved through the home.
