China censors ‘Titanic 3D’ nudity so viewers don’t try and cop a feel
Not all of “Titanic 3D” made it to China — and, unfortunately, the parts that did were not the naked ones.
According to Offbeat China, China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television decided to block out the film’s nude scenes for fear that fans will try to reach out and touch Kate Winslet’s — um — body parts.
An SARFT official said in a statement, “Considering the vivid 3-D effects, we fear that viewers may reach out their hands for a touch and thus interrupt other people’s viewing. To avoid potential conflicts between viewers and out of consideration of building a harmonious ethical social environment, we’ve decided to cut off the nudity scenes.”
Many moviegoers were naturally very unhappy about the decision.
“Fifteen years ago in ‘Titanic,’ we got to see the nudity scenes. Fifteen years later in Titanic 3D, the scenes are censored out,” an upset fan told Offbeat China. “This shows exactly how many steps forward we’ve made in terms of technology and how many steps backward we’ve made in terms of freedom.”
That’s not the only thing that’s bugging the crowd, according to a different fan: “I waited 15 years to see 3D boobs, not 3D iceberg.”
