China executes 12 people in single day

BEIJING (AP) — China has executed 12 people in a single day, including a man who bombed a local tax office.

The official Xinhua News Agency says Liu Zhuiheng was convicted and sentenced to death for detonating explosives outside a tax office in Changsha city in Hunan province in July 2010. Four people were killed and 17 others wounded. Xinhua says the 52-year-old was venting anger over business losses.

Xinhua says China's supreme court approved the death sentence of Liu and 11 others Thursday. All death sentences are sent to the supreme court for review and are usually carried out immediately if approved.

The other 11 people were convicted of crimes including murder and robbery.

China executes more people than any other country — around 4,000 people a year.

If they execute 4,000 a year than 12 is pretty much a typical day.

Thank you. Someone has a BRAIN!!! What kind of idiotic news is this? Are journalists REALLY this DUMB???? If they wanted sensationalism, shouldn't the headline have been "China executes nearly 12 people every day". I wonder what else the journalists miss--------just about everything, I presume. lol

Speaking of crappy products , the sofware manufactures should have to label their product either 100% error free or else put a notice on the package the product has errors ...

You left out corrupt politicians--China executes them too. How's that for an idea!

here in America, they'd be sitting on death row for 30 years, while lawyers raked in millions of taxpayer $$$ on endless appeals, aint life grand?
      • IAMHELL 4 mths ago
It's part of the process, might I suggest if you don't like it move to China. Most appellate lawyers don't get rich final death row appeals.... By the way you write and the ambiguous generalizations you make, you don't think much do you?
      • Jeremy 4 mths ago
To Hell with you and your "process" we need to follow China's example. These people willingly choose to remove themselves from society, so we are supposed to pay for them to eat, to have heat and A/C, for 3 squares a day, a full gym and a college education? I know Veterans who lost limbs for this country who are begging for change.
      • dagizi 4 mths ago
        So move to China.

Can we send our entire govt over there, now that they're warmed up?
    • Ray  •  4 mths ago
I find the headline somewhat amusing...China executes 12 in one day...and the story says they average 11 executions a day, 365 days a year. So the extra one made it newsworthy today!

It's nothing more than a counter to the Russians criticizing America for it's civil rights record recently. It's our countries way of keeping American citizens distracted by all the other evil countries, so we don't have time to look at the evil we have become.

Yea we're way smarter than them. $35,000 dollars a year to house, clothe and feed punks for the rest of their useless lives, pending appeal after appeal after appeal VS......12 cents worth of lead for a bullet. Geezus

When you have 1.7-billion people, justice has to be swift. What's interesting is that all death sentences go straight to the Supreme Court for review and, if upheld, the sentence is carried out immediately. No 25 years of screwing around in the lower courts over there.

grant, we don't want to put to death the wrong person.... but it should not go on for years & years.... or is this about lawyers milking the system.....

When u mess up in china they take you out back after your trial and put a bullet in you. Helluva better way to go than incarcerating them for their entire life with endless appeals.

Swift justice - can't work here. Too many blood sucking lawyers.

I guess we could learn something from China regarding capital punishment and swift justice. Surprised it took them 1 1/2 years to execute the bomber. At least it was not 20 years like in the US.

Good job China. It's comforting to see a country with the courage to extract equal justice from those who would destroy individuals and society. Perhaps Washington and some of the liberal pantie waste states should take notice.
