Late last night TMZ reported that ABC will not press charges against Chris Brown for smashing a dressing room window with a chair on the set of "Good Morning America." The star's shocking destructive behavior has caused quite a stir, but Brown is just one of many celebrities who have damaged other people's property.
Shortly after Brown stormed out of the GMA building shirtless, he tweeted: "I'm so over people bringing this past s**t up!!! Yet we praise Charlie sheen and other celebs for there (sic) bulls**t." The R&B artist's outburst was triggered by questions about the Rihanna incident, so he was referring to Sheen's own domestic violence charges.
Oddly enough, rocker Bret Michaels spoke out about Charlie Sheen's own destructive behavior when it comes to buildings earlier this week -- he alleged that he taught Sheen how to properly trash a room at the Plaza Hotel last October.
And of course rockers have a history of wrecking hotel rooms. The Who's Keith Moon was notorious for hotel room trashing -- he once nailed furniture to the ceiling of one room, while he was jailed for another occasion when he and his partying pals had a food fight in their hotel room before emptying all the fire extinguishers they could find on the floor. When police arrived, Moon jumped into a nearby car and drove it right into the Holiday Inn's pool. His band was promptly banned from the hotel chain for life.
The other wild Keith of Rolling Stones fame once flung a TV out of a hotel window before the days when they were bolted down, while the band Aerosmith actually traveled with chainsaws to cause the maximum amount of destruction during their stays.
Other celebrities opt to destroy the property of the paparazzi. In 2008, Woody Harrelson was sued for choking a TMZ paparazzo and breaking his video camera. The two settled out of court, and the charges were later dismissed. Kanye West also attacked a TMZ paparazzo and broke a camera in 2008; his case was also dismissed.
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin didn't go for the camera -- he took on a paparazzo's car instead in 2003 by smashing a window and letting air out of the tires. Charges against this musician were also dropped.
So it seems that celebrities definitely have a way of getting off the hook when they destroy property, and, despite complaints that he's got it worse than Charlie Sheen, Chris Brown can certainly claim that he's #winning after dodging a big bullet this time around.
