Chris Daughtry To Recur & Write Music For Fox Pilot ‘Studio City’
Singer/songwriter Chris Daughtry, who got his break on Fox’s American Idol, is returning to the network with another music-themed project, scripted dramedy pilot Studio City. Daughtry will have a recurring role in the project, written by Krista Vernoff and directed by Sanaa Hamri. Inspired by Vernoff’s real-life experience growing up as the daughter of a drug dealer to the stars, Studio City is set in present-day Studio City, CA, and tells the story of a young singer’s (Florence Pugh) path to stardom as she comes of age living with her songwriter father Rob (Eric McCormack) — who turns out to be a drug dealer to the stars. Daughtry will play Keith Rhodes, a drug-addicted rock star. Additionally, he will also write original music for the show.
Rocker Daughtry is among the most successful Idol alumni, with his eponymous band’s first album becoming the fastest selling debut rock album in Nielsen Soundscan history and reaching No.1 on the Billboard chart. He made his acting debut with a guest spot on CBS crime drama CSI: NY. Daughtry is repped by CAA and Pearl Group Entertainment.
