Chris Evans Explains Why Captain America Needs The Winter Soldier

Captain America and Bucky Barnes have had a rather tumultuous friendship.

First of all they were best of buds at the beginning of ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’. That seemingly ended with Barnes falling to his assumed death during the midst of World War II.

But in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Barnes returned as the titular villain, and soon set about destroying his old pal, something that he just about failed to do.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ will see Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes share the screen again, and fans are intrigued by what their dynamic will be in the blockbuster.

This was exacerbated over the weekend when the first trailer for ‘Captain America: Civil War’ premiered at the Disney Expo, and a specific line of dialogue hinted that Bucky and Steve’s relationship will be at the core of Civil War.

Speaking to Captain America, Crossbones (Frank Grillo) declares, “He remembered you. Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky.” Obviously, at this point, it’s still too early to know exactly what that means, but it’s still downright exciting.

While speaking to Buzz Feed Chris Evans spoke about why fans are so intrigued by his relationship with Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, stating that Barnes is the last visage to the era that he is from and still pines for.

“The best thing about Cap is he’s such a sympathetic character. He struggles so much [and] he doesn’t bleed on people,” Evans explained.

He continued, “So to have a character who’s always taking his conflict in such a personal manner, when he has the opportunity to reconnect in a way that could be purely self-serving — it’s not for the greater good, it’s not for anyone else, it’s just for him and he’s put himself last so often, so many times — when you have a character that just remembers him and he has a flash of personal agenda, it’s rewarding. I like it. I like those moments where Cap gets to have a little nugget just for himself.”

There’s another reason why Evans believes people are so fascinated by their relationship, and it’s down to his cinematic camaraderie with Sebastian Stan, who he insisted is “phenomenal,” in Civil War before adding that the film is “enormously based on the chemistry Sebastian Stan has established in the past movies.”

‘Captain America: Civil War’ will finally be with us on May 6, 2016. And hopefully the likes of Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man and Spider-Man won’t get in the way of Cap and Buck’s complicated bromance.
