Christiane Amanpour May Be Headed Back to CNN

Welcome to the Smart Set. Every morning we bring you the gossip coverage, filtered. Today: Christiane Amanpour's ABC regrets, the Wenners are officially single again after all these years, and Barack Obama meets his team of Hollywood 'influencers.'

  • Before leaving Los Angeles for San Francisco Tuesday afternoon, President Obama stopped "stopped for an undisclosed meeting" at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The bold-faced names that showed up for the meeting included:

"Harvey Weinstein, CAA managing partner and music head Rob Light, ICM president Chris Silbermann, Modern Family creator Steve Levitan, Atlantic Records chairman Craig Kallman, producer/songwriter Bruce Roberts, talent manger and producer Jason Weinberg, UTA music agent Rob Prinz, talent manager and producer Eric Ortner, Island Def Jam senior vice president Karen Kwak, Warner Bros. Records president Livia Tortella, talent manager Greg Mertz, ID PR publicists Kelly Bush and Mara Buxbaum, talent managers Bruce Flohr, Michael Green, Steve Moir and Bill Silva, Universial Music Publishing Group executive vice president and head of creative Tom Sturges, entertainment attorney Chuck Ortner and actor/activist Kal Penn."

The event wasn't a fundraiser, and one attendee says the "the vibe was casual" throughout. Obama "appeared for about 25 to 30 minutes, telling the group that his campaign would be tough and he needed their help to engage the Hollywood community in particular and the general public at large." The question of just how much support can expect to receive from Hollywood is up in the air. The guest list included "the most ardent supporters of the president and were identified as 'influencers' with the ability to help Obama shape the national political conversation heading into a tough race in 2012." Missing from the list of influencers: big-ticket actors (so long Ben, Matt, and Bob De Niro), studio heads, and respected and politically engaged directors like Steven Spielberg and Rob Reiner. If Obama's going to hold on to the Hollywood money, he's apparently going to need plenty of agents, music executives, and the thousand-yard stare of Harvey Weinstein to do it.
