Christiane Amanpour May Be Headed Back to CNN

Welcome to the Smart Set. Every morning we bring you the gossip coverage, filtered. Today: Christiane Amanpour's ABC regrets, the Wenners are officially single again after all these years, and Barack Obama meets his team of Hollywood 'influencers.'

• Before leaving Los Angeles for San Francisco Tuesday afternoon, President Obama stopped "stopped for an undisclosed meeting" at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The bold-faced names that showed up for the meeting included:

The event wasn't a fundraiser, and one attendee says the "the vibe was casual" throughout. Obama "appeared for about 25 to 30 minutes, telling the group that his campaign would be tough and he needed their help to engage the Hollywood community in particular and the general public at large." The question of just how much support can expect to receive from Hollywood is up in the air. The guest list included "the most ardent supporters of the president and were identified as 'influencers' with the ability to help Obama shape the national political conversation heading into a tough race in 2012." Missing from the list of influencers: big-ticket actors (so long Ben, Matt, and Bob De Niro), studio heads, and respected and politically engaged directors like Steven Spielberg and Rob Reiner. If Obama's going to hold on to the Hollywood money, he's apparently going to need plenty of agents, music executives, and the thousand-yard stare of Harvey Weinstein to do it. • Christiane Amanpour reportedly "isn't getting along" with her bosses ABC News and has reached out to the honchos at CNN about out possibly rejoining the network. Over the summer a "miserable" Amanpour contacted Turner CEO Phillip Kent about "getting back to reporting on her passion -- international affairs." Sources say this kicked off a summer-long professional courtship between Amanpour and Hunt, both of whom "regretted her leaving" CNN for ABC back in 2010. Her dysfunctional relationship with executive producer Rick Kaplan and ABC News Ben Sherwood is said to be another cause for alarm. "It’s a problem,” a source involved with the production says. “Rick is trying to guide the show, but she doesn’t want to hear it.” When asked for comment, an ABC rep said the report is "total nonsense" and that Amanpour is "very happy at ABC News. She’s not going anywhere." [Page Six]

• The 16 years-in-the-making divorce between Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner and wife Jane is now official. Jane reportedly received "a secret multimillion dollar settlement." The speculation is that Wenner is eager to divorce Jane now that gay marriage is legal in New York, because he wasnt to tie the knot with longterm sweetheart and Calvin Klein model Matt Dye.  [Page Six] 

• Jason Sudeikis reportedly had "his arm around" Ashley Olsen at the after-party for Tower Heist early Tuesday morning. A witness says the couple "snuggled" in the back booth at Rande Gerber's Stone Rose lounge in the Time Warner Center, which is one step away from canoodling. [Gatecrasher]

• Steven Tyler is downplaying his tangle with a Paraguayan shower that cost him an unspecified number of teeth and resulted in "injuries to his face." The singer has already apologized for the damage, blaming "dehydration caused by a bout of food poisoning" for wandering into a shower and proceeding to ding up various portions of his face. Those Paraguayan showers are deathtraps. [TMZ]

• Lou Reed was the only person at the 80-guest dinner Monday toasting his new album album "Lulu" who refused to order from the set menu, demanding a steak instead of fish, a request that was granted. That wasn't all. A source says Reed "also wanted marinara sauce on his pasta, but there was none in the restaurant -- so somebody had to run out and get some."  [Page Six]

• Hugh Jackman was feeling like the cock of the walk in Tribeca Sunday as he prepared to open his coffee shop Laughing Man for the first time. Jackson "flashed his movie-star smile as he greeted guests, and photographers eagerly clicked." But then world came from across th street that Sen. John Kerry was in the Duane Hotel. As a result, the press "abandoned the actor en masse" in favor of a John Kerry action shot. Unless Kerry was windsurfing while saying the names of local stadium wrong, a smart crew would have stayed with Jackman. It  was opening night! [Gatecrasher]

• Jennifer Aniston cleared a few matters up in a recent interview with Hello! magazine. First, the wring she's been spotted wearing around town is not an engagement ring from new squeeze Justin Theroux. Said Aniston: "I've been married once, and I don't know if I'll get married again But I can tell you that as of this very moment, I have no plan to get married. Got that?" Got it. Now on to the second issue: Aniston's fetching, barely noticeable, recent weight gain weight, which some people think is proof's she's going to be a mom soon. Explained Aniston: "It's just I quit smoking, so I've gained a couple of pounds." Got that? [Hello! Magazine via  People via Jezebel]

• Julia Louis-Dreyfus' lady vice president HBO pilot is finally filming in D.C. this week, after the spending first three weeks of production in Baltimore, pumping $25 million into the local economy and taking advantage of the Old Line State's enticing tax breaks. On Tuesday, filming began on Constitution avenue and"where film trucks and trailers took up most of the real estate in front of the Mellon Auditorium." An outdoor scene was filmed "in the east passageway connected to the Ronald Reagan Building — standing-in for the U.S. Capitol." At which point everyone went into an office building to film some interior scenes. Dreyfuss, for her part, was reportedly "recognized at the nearby Hyatt Regency hotel when she asked directions to the restroom." [The Reliable Source]

• 89 year-old former presidential candidate George McGovern has been "hospitalized with fatigue" in South Dakota after he finishing a speaking tour. McGovern's doctors expect him to make a "full recovery and to be released after couple of days." This is terrific  news, since The Atlantic Wire Washington staff misses seeing him around the Watergate building, where he always holds the elevator doors open. [Reuters]
