Chrysler factory running, day after fatal stabbing

DETROIT (AP) — The assembly line is running again at a Chrysler factory in Detroit, one day after an employee fatally stabbed his co-worker in view of their colleagues.

Production restarted Friday at the Jefferson North plant that employs about 3,100 workers on two shifts.

Police said an ongoing dispute between two unidentified employees resulted in one stabbing the other Thursday morning, then fleeing. The suspect was later found on Belle Isle, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No motive has been established, and no other employees were injured.

Chrysler officials say no weapons are allowed inside the plant, which does not have metal detectors.

Workers on the first shift were sent home early Thursday. The plant's second shift was canceled

The plant makes the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango full-size SUVs.
