Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber Flip Out in Malibu

SELLERS: Cindy Crawford and Randy Gerber
LOCATION: Malibu, Calif.
PRICE: $15.45 million
SIZE: 3,651 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A freshly rehabbed and supremely located property on Malibu’s ever-more pricey Point Dume that Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber bought less than a year ago for $6 million has popped back up on the open market, we first heard from eagle-eyed real estate yenta Yolanda Yakketyyak, with an asking price of $15.45 million. The gated, 1.41-acre estate sits at the tail end of a celeb-lined cul-de-sac within sugar-borrowing distance of luxury estates owned by high-profile peeps like Julia Roberts, Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith, kinky-haired saxophonist Kenny G, and consciously uncoupled — and newly divorced — Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.

Newly installed, wide-plank French oak floors flow throughout most of the three-story, 3,651-square-foot residence, including in the spacious and stylishly appointed open-plan main living space that incorporates multiple seating and dining areas, a wood-burning fireplace and several wide banks of glass sliders that open to a sea air-licked deck that provides a lovely if somewhat paltry peep at the ocean through a copse of mature trees. The living and dining spaces open to a pretty nearly all-white kitchen where there’s a sizable and, in our meaningless opinion, unwisely selected combination light fixture/pot rack above the super-sized center island and, tucked in the corner where it benefits from a peek-a-boo ocean view, a perfectly charming and convenient built-in dining banquette. A separate den/media room has a vaulted ceiling and — 1970s interior design aficionados will note — wood-paneled walls, while a secondary bonus room lounge on the lower level has an elevated built-in banquette lounge and sliding glass doors that lead to a covered deck with another tree-framed but disappointingly puny view of the ocean.

The are either five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms or four bedrooms and five bathrooms depending on where on the listing one looks but, whatever the case, at least two of the guest/family bedrooms are en suite with direct outdoor access. The privately situated owner’s suites occupies its own floor and is large enough to comfortably accommodate a roomy sitting area and opens through a wide bank of floor-to-ceiling glass sliders to private deck. The medium-sized but high-grade master bathroom has a double vanity, a free-standing soaking tub and separate glass-enclosed steam shower.

The gated and presumably intensely fortified property also includes, per online marketing materials, a lagoon-style swimming pool, garaging for four cars, an expansive and partly tree-shaded lawn and a hotly coveted private path and deeded rights to Little Dume, arguably the most exclusive and difficult to access beach in Malibu.

In addition to an oceanfront house in Cabo San Lucas that’s next door to a similarly contemporary one owned by their pal George Clooney, the Gerber-Crawfords have long maintained a small but impressive and impressively pricey portfolio of Malibu properties. Since the late 1990s they’ve kept a cottage on the beach just beyond rapidly eroding Broad Beach that occasionally pops up for lease on the open market as a fully furnished rental in the $45,000 per month price range (for the summer season). Their primary residence has long been a multistructure compound that tumbles down to the beach on the super-swank Encinal Bluffs and is right next door to an even larger 5.9-acre bluff-top estate that was recently and surreptitiously acquired in an off-market deal for a truly startling $50.5 million by — as Yours Truly was the first to reveal to the children earlier this week — none other than Mister Gerber and Miz Crawford.
