SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Are you looking for a summer job? The City of San Diego’s Parks and Recreation Department is looking to hire seasonal and year-round pool guards to help staff 15 swimming pool facilities this summer.

Full-time and part-time positions are available, and some positions come with benefits. The city is also hiring swimming pool managers. Applicants will need to have all five of the following certifications issued from the American Red Cross to qualify for a manager position: lifeguarding/first aid, emergency medical response, water safety instructor, CPR/automated external defibrillator and CPR for the professional rescuer/AED essentials.

The city says it wants to ensure swimming pools have enough guards on deck during all hours of operation.

Interested applicants can apply at a hiring fair scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Allied Gardens Pool on 6707 Glenroy St.

All candidates will undergo a water skills test to see if they meet the prerequisites. The hiring fair is intended for people applying for either the Pool Guard I or Pool Guard II positions who have already filled out an application online.
