    The Clean Trust Water Restoration Authority Offers New Mold Remediation Specialist Certification

    RestorationLocal.com and The Clean Trust (formerly the Institute for Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification) announce the addition of a new certification exam for service providers in the mold removal and remediation industry. The Mold Removal Specialist (MRS) exam will certify providers that meet all state required licensing requirements. The new certification is designed to provide a greater level of accountability for mold remediation providers.

    The new certification was designed to be an additional procedure to the already established Applied Microbial Restoration Technician (AMRT) exam, and is basically a higher and more in depth level of certification. The differences between the MRS and the AMRT are:


    •     There are no continuing education requirements following successful completion of the MRS, only an annual renewal fee and recertification every five years.

    •     The exam will be completed at a testing center located closest to the exam taker, cutting down on expensive travel requirements.

    •     There are no training pre-requisites required to take the exam, although such procedures are highly recommended.

    •     This is the first Clean Trust exam not associated with a specific Clean Trust training course.

    200 participants participated in a beta test for the new exam in late 2011, and the project rolled out just after Christmas. It is now readily available to all providers in the mold remediation industry.

    “As the IICRC seeks to be the leading, independent, non-profit certification and standard setting body within the industry, it is important that we remain proactive throughout all new regulation and legislation changes, such as in the mold remediation industry,” said Paul Pearce, IICRC Chairman Of The Board.

    The new Mold Removal Specialist certification will indicate that the successful candidate has developed the knowledge and relevant skills necessary in order to perform effective mold removal and remediation services for homes, businesses, and their contents. They will be able to design and maintain containments, control pressure differentials, and safely work in and around mold infested environments.

    The certified provider will also understand common remediation practices, protocols, be able to develop and design remediation processes, follow industry standards and legal requirements, as well as recognizing conditions that are conducive to mold growth and knowing how to prevent amplification and contamination for a wide variety of building environments.

    The Clean Trust is the governing body for the water damage restoration, fire damage restoration, and mold removal industry. RestorationLocal.com is a Clean Trust certified water restoration service provider with service in 30 states.
