Clive Owen Heads to Broadway for ‘Old Times’
Clive Owen will make his Broadway debut in the fall, toplining a Roundabout Theater Company revival of Harold Pinter’s “Old Times.”
Douglas Hodge, the British actor who won a Tony for his turn in the 2010 revival of “La Cage aux Folles” and played the title role in the Roundabout’s staging of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” will direct the production, set to open the Roundabout’s 50th season.
Owen, currently filming the second season of Cinemax’s “The Knick,” will play Deeley in Pinter’s ambiguous drama about a married couple visited by an old friend. His London theater credits include “Romeo and Juliet,” “Design for Living” and “Closer,” in which he played a part he reprised in Mike Nichols’ movie version.
The Roundabout, which operates three Broadway theaters and two Off Broadway spaces, has over the years become a go-to stop for stars on Broadway, many of them making their debuts there. Recent big names to star in Roundabout productions including Ewan McGregor (“The Real Thing”), Michelle Williams and Emma Stone (both in “Cabaret”).
Hodge, who starred in the original cast of the West End musical adaptation of “Charlie and Chocolate Factory,” has directed plays in the U.K. including “Torch Song Trilogy.”
The Roundabout revival of “Old Times” starts previews Sept. 17 ahead of an Oct. 15 opening. The exact Broadway theater has yet to be set.
