Collapse hits LA construction site; no one hurt

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A section of a parking structure under construction in downtown Los Angeles has collapsed, but authorities say it appears no one was hurt.

Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott says all workers were accounted for following the collapse, which was reported at 8:59 a.m. Friday.

A department search and rescue team found no one trapped in the debris.

Aerial TV images show a portion of the second floor of the parking structure collapsed onto the first floor. Scott estimates the area measures 50 feet by 75 feet.

The site is adjacent to the west side of the Los Angeles River, a heavily congested area near county jails and downtown's transit plaza.
