    The AAMC report also showed that first-time medical school applicants also increased by 2.6 percent, to 32,654 students this year. In total, including first-time and returning applicants, the number of those applying to medical school in 2011 is 43,919 students. Of this number, only 19,230 students will be accepted, which is 3 percent more than last year. However, the number of students accepted as related to the number that apply is quite small, less than 50 percent.
