Collingwood overcomes big deficit to beat Essendon

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Collingwood overcame a 37-point deficit by kicking 10 of 11 goals in the middle stages of the match and beat Essendon 12.11 (83) to 8.12 (60) on Friday.

Collingwood's Dane Swan kicked four goals to lead the Magpies to victory before 91,731 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Collingwood has 11 wins and a draw from the 19 games played since it became an annual Anzac Day game.

The match was the opener of the sixth round in Australian Football League. First-placed Geelong will attempt to improve to 6-0 when it plays Port Adelaide in the final match of the round on Sunday.
