BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — The Colombian government says the country's economy grew 5.9 percent last year, boosted by a strong mining sector.
Gold and coal mining have grown in Colombia recently as has oil production.
A report from the national statistics agency Thursday says the expansion in 2011 was Colombia's strongest since the economy grew 6.9 percent in 2007.
Last year's economic growth was up from 4 percent growth in 2010.
