Comedy Central Promotes West Coast Development Exec

Comedy Central has promoted Ian Friedman to VP of original programming and development.

Friedman has been a key player in developing a range of series for the Viacom cabler including “Drunk History,” the animated “Brickleberry” and “Brody Stevens: Enjoy It.” He is based in the Santa Monica office and reports to Jim Sharp, exec VP who oversees West Coast development.

“Ian is probably a smarter and more talented exec than we deserve, but he has a couple of character flaws that balance him out,” said Kent Alterman, the cabler’s head of original programming and development.

Friedman has been with Comedy Central since 2008 and was most recently director of original programming.
