Here comes the iPad mini: Apple to unveil new smaller iPad on October 23rd

Apple (AAPL) will unveil its new iPad mini tablet on October 23rd according to a new report. After October 10th came and went with no media invitations, the usual suspects began pinging their Apple sources in search of answers. Now, we finally have our first hit. AllThingsD, which has accurately pegged numerous event dates for Apple device unveilings in the past, cites unnamed sources in claiming that Apple will take the wraps off its new iPad mini during a press conference on October 23rd — three days before Microsoft’s (MSFT) Surface tablet goes on sale. This would push the likely release date of the new iPad mini into early November as opposed to late October, as had previously been rumored. The iPad mini is expected to feature a 7.85-inch display, an ultra-thin unibody aluminum case and rumors suggest it may be offered with an anodized finish similar to the iPhone 5.
