ComiXology Offering 100 Digital Indie Comics for $10

Digital comic giant ComiXology announced its "ComiXology Submit" self-publishing initiative at SXSW 2013, and the company's commitment to the little guys is as strong as ever at this year's show. To keep the spotlight on creators of indie comics, ComiXology is allowing users to nab the "Submit Starter Pack," which gives them 100 digital comic books for $10 from now through Mar. 10.

Since the launch of ComiXology Submit at last year's SXSW, a total of 1,007 independent comics have been released through the app. The New York-based comics seller has received more than 3,000 submissions since the launch of the initiative, with 668 rejections and the remaining bunch still under review. According to ComiXology, the most common cause of rejected submissions are low-quality and over-compressed PDF files.

The Submit Starter Pack includes titles like "The Bunker," "Too Much Coffee Man" and "Doc Unknown," the latter of which was written by Fabian Rangel Jr., who joined the ComiXology crew on stage at its SXSW 2014 panel. Rangel Jr. brought "Doc Unknown" to life, and it's now one of the top 100 self-published books on ComiXology.

ComiXology brought plenty of excitement to its fans at SXSW 2014, but the company has not been all smiles lately. The digital bookstore recently fell victim to a data breach; one that required all users to change their passwords. According to ComiXology, payment information is not stored on its servers and was never in danger.

If you want to score big on a stockpile of comics that aren't from big names like Marvel, DC and Image, you'll need to act fast. The $10 Submit Starter Pack will end on Mar. 10 at 11pm EST. You'll need to buy the pack from the ComiXology website, but you can read any of your purchased comics on the iOS, Android, Kindle and Windows 8 apps.

Launching in 2007, ComiXology currently houses more than 40,000 digital comics from 75 different publishers. The app has grown popular for its cinematic "Guided View" reading experience, and top publishers like Marvel and DC have released books exclusive to the platform.
