‘Community’ Trailer: Yahoo Joins Yahoos For Season 6

The long, winding road of the Dan Harmon-created Community has led it from NBC to Yahoo, which over the summer revived NBC’s perennial bubble show that was finally canceled after five seasons. The new class of Greendale Community College includes Paget Brewster and Keith David joining the core group that includes Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Dani Pudi and Ken Jeong.

Harmon said in January that there will be a “loosening of the corset” on the new season in its new home — though because of producer Sony TV’s domestic and international syndication deals, viewers will not see wholesale changes. “We still have to hold to that 20 minute [format],” Harmon said at TCA, though it may be a little more “chubby — like me. A little extra.”

Sony TV has a strong track record of successfully bringing series back from cancellation, which it also did for Drop Dead Diva, Damages and most recently Unforgettable landing at A&E. This is a new play for Yahoo, which has watched as Netflix scooped up series for its own streaming service: AMC’s The Killing and A&E’s Longmire being two recent examples.

Community, now a Yahoo Original, premieres the first two of its 13 episodes March 17 on Yahoo! Screen, then follow the more traditional weekly rollout — which differs from Netflix’s binge model where all episodes will be available at once. Different approaches, but it’s the result that matters: Will you be following Community to Yahoo? Does this trailer give you hope, or pause?
