Company seeks Alaska Army wives for TV show

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — A new reality television show is looking for cast members in Alaska.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://bit.ly/tgcscx ) reports 44 Blue Productions is seeking people for "Army Wives of Alaska."

The company has produced shows such as "The True Story of Black Hawk Down," ''U.S. Navy Pirate Hunters" and "Cell Dogs."

Army Alaska is supporting the show and will host the production company when staff members interview spouses this month.

Company co-owner Stephanie Dachkovitch says she was an "Army kid" herself and her mother was an Army wife.

She says her company wants to show military spouses in extraordinary conditions. She says the company will seek spouses of military personnel in different units and ranks.

I want to comment on some of the comments, I am here at Fort wainwright alaska and for the comment about the officer wife's and the enlisted My husband was enlisted before becoming an officer so I know how it is on both sides. Also some want to blame the army for there husbands or wife's for cheating but the army does not make anyone cheat it is the person that is messed up that does it.. Yes it is a hard life but there are some good things about it. Yes there are some very messed up things that are not right here and if you try to help to fix it or change it sometimes your family is threatened but that is just some messed up leaders but of all the house wife shows I think to have a show of what the military families and the soldiers go throw and the sacrifices that they go throw is not about money it is about what other go throw to give others the right to be free and to say what they want because of them..

..with the way reality shows are edited, I wonder how many Army marriages this is going to ruin..
      • Denise 6 mths ago
Probably less than are ruined by the stress of repeated deployments and PTSD.
      • Ghost 6 mths ago
The marriages would probably be doomed anyway.

I think this could be a really good thing, if done well. So many people don't realize what military spouses have to go through on a daily basis. While the spouse is away we have to take care of everything, be both mom and dad, and deal with the separation from our loves.

But it probably won't turn out so well. Most 'reality" tv doesn't. You know they are going to make it look like everyone is the bad guy.

Is it going to have men married to military women? I don't see this being a good idea, being prior military and currently married to a solider I have had to deal with women telling me how much they hate military wives because they hit on their husbands when the military women are deployed, but are goodie goodie when they are home. Not all, but some

Please NO. Too many families are living this as it is. Yet another ridiculous TV show about people acting like fools and being disrespectful to their spouses/friends/familes..
    • FxyLdy  •  6 mths ago
While two friends were stationed in alaska their wives cheated on them...its not a show...its a soap opera...
      • Disgruntled 6 mths ago
I've been around the military for over 20 years and you are completely right about that.

I spent a combined total of about 2 1/2 years living and working at an Army post in the Alaskan interior. There's no glamour or heroic drama there, and most of the exceptional perseverance and grace under pressure that exists with some of the families there is the quiet sort that doesn't make for good TV. There's plenty of dirty laundry and bad family situations and drama queens (of both genders) scattered around though... gee, I wonder which direction a reality show would gravitate towards?
Leave these people the heck alone, would ya? Putting a reality show in this environment would just be the proverbial "turd in the punchbowl".
    • Ghost  •  6 mths ago
Maybe they'll show some West Point butterbar's wife calling up the unit demanding a lower enlisted guy to come over and shovel her sidewalk. What fun.
    • Disgruntled  •  6 mths ago
As an Air Force spouse, the thought of a reality show exploiting Army wives makes me seriously nauseous. I'm assuming they want officer's wives, because frankly Americans would probably be shocked at how little money enlisted guys make and how badly their dependents are treated.
      • Denise 6 mths ago
I beg to differ. My husband is enlisted in the Army and we live quite well. It's a matter of managing your finances (living within your means). And while the Army is geared more towards its soldiers I can honestly say I haven't been treated "badly". And I've been happy with the programs in place to support military families thus far.
      • kevinp 6 mths ago
Yes Denise, you can make it work if finances are managed right. But if you have a lazy POS Ex that refuses to get a job like I did then it makes it a bit more difficult. But enlisted guys really don't make that much money, infact I believe up until you get your 5 your living below the poverty lvl.
      • Tommy 6 mths ago
Kevin is right, however you may be living below the poverty level but if you manage your expenses and live on post it's not tough. I made $900/month as an E-2 lived below the poverty line until I made my E-5. It wasn't too difficult, Here's a tip, 100% tuition assistance, college, then green to gold. Works every time!
