Concussion, Raw Fish, and Tears: Mockingjay Cast Reveal Truth Behind Epic Hunger Games Shoot

The primary cast of ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise have come a long way since the first film was released back in 2012. Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson have risen to the top of the Hollywood a-list and are adored by their fans around the world.

Shooting the four films has been an epic feat of endurance for everyone involved and because of the intense fan scrutiny, several myths and legends have arisen about the shoot where they live on as nuggets of trivia, permanently inscribed on the films’ IMDB pages.

So, like Katniss does with Peeta in ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2′, Yahoo Movies is here to help separate which stories about the shoot are “real or not real”.

Myth: They all cried on the last day of shooting

Liam: Woody [Harrelson] was doing a speech and he started to get choked up and tear up, that was when we all slightly teared up.

Verdict: REAL

Myth: Jennifer Lawrence “nearly died” when a smoke machine backfired

Jennifer: There was an explosion and everyone couldn’t see and couldn’t breathe, so they couldn’t find us for a long time, and we couldn’t find them. It was like being in the centre of a bombing.

Verdict: NOT REAL

Myth: They would eat garlic before kissing scenes to put each other off

Jennifer: I wouldn’t refrain from eating garlic.

Josh: But you wouldn’t seek it out.

Liam: It wasn’t a choice.

Myth: While shooting the first film Jennifer KO’d Josh when she kicked him in the head accidentally

Jennifer: I didn’t knock him out but I gave him concussion.

Verdict: NOT REAL

Myth: They had to eat raw fish on camera

Jennifer: Yep, we ate fish like Gollum, and for the record, it tastes like it smells.

Myth: There will be more ‘Hunger Games’ films in the future

Jennifer: Not with us in them. They’ll get a whole new cast of young hot teenagers.

Verdict: UNCLEAR

MYTH: There was a swear jar on set

Jennifer: Not real. I don’t know why people keep saying that. If that swear jar existed, we would never have had the financing for the rest of the movies.
