    Conference aims to expand W.Va. biotech industry

    Conference bringing in dozens of success stories to help W.Va. grow its biotech industry

    CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- An Ohio businessman who helped grow what is now a $100 million biotech business will speak at the third annual West Virginia Biosciences Summit.

    Dave Scholl, now a partner in a regional venture capital firm, and more than 20 others will share strategies for success.

    Among them are: Fritz Bittenbender of Alliance Development & State Government Relations; Jeff May of Mylan North America; and Chancellor Paul Hill of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

    The event is set for Feb. 28 in Charleston.

    Derek Gregg is chairman of the Bioscience Association of West Virginia. He says the state can do more to expand its biotech industry.

    Gregg says the conference will showcase research and commercialization efforts, and discuss policies and programs to nurture the industry.
