Congressman Alan Grayson's Wife Accuses Him of Domestic Violence

Rep. Alan Grayson's wife has accused him of shoving and injuring her during a domestic dispute over the weekend. Grayson, a Democrat, was not arrested during the incident and isn't currently facing charges, according to the Orlando Sentinel. But a judge granted a temporary  protective injunction against him on Monday based on Lolita Grayson's accusations.  Lolita Grayson filed for divorce two months ago. A spokesperson for the Florida congressman dismissed the accusations as false and "frivolous."

According to a statement given to the Sentinel, the Orange County Sheriff's department is "currently conducting a Domestic Violence investigation which is open and active at this point." Specifically, the police report clarifies, police are investigating a possible domestic-violence battery incident, of which Lolita Grayson is the alleged victim.

Rep. Grayson showed up unannounced at his wife's home, prompting an altercation during which he "deliberately and with force pushed [Lolita Grayson] very hard against the front door, causing [her] to fall to the ground as a result," according to the petition filed by Lolita Grayson and obtained by the Sentinel. Before calling 911, Lolita Grayson says that she kicked her estranged husband in the stomach and pushed away his face "in order to protect and defend herself." The congressman's wife also argued that "from time to time," Grayson "has battered [her] and the parties' minor children." Grayson's office responded to the accusations with a statement:

"Sadly, it was Ms. Grayson who physically attacked the Congressman as he attempted to visit with his children. He did not respond to Ms. Grayson's violent assault."

The statement also contends that Lolita Grayson has become "increasingly erratic" in recent months. Because of the injunction, Grayson is barred from the family home, where Lolita Grayson will continue to live with the couple's four minor children. It bars him from contacting his estranged wife until a March 20's court date. Grayson is seeking re-election in November.
