Construction expected to cause significant traffic delays near LAX this weekend

Crews will continue working on the Roadway and Utility Enabling Project this weekend, causing significant traffic delays near Los Angeles International Airport.

As part of the RUE Project, construction will have all westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes closed on Century Boulevard at Concourse Way, between La Cienega Boulevard and Aviation Boulevard until 4 p.m. Sunday.

Drivers going to or from LAX are expected to face major delays through the closure and are being asked to plan accordingly.

Westbound Century Boulevard will be limited to local access only, with westbound traffic detoured via northbound La Cienega Boulevard, westbound Arbor Vitae Stree, and southbound Aviation Boulevard.

Crews will be directing traffic for the duration of the closures and there will be signage visible for motorists. LAX staff will be monitoring delays in the area.

The construction is part of the RUE Project, which aims to improve traffic flow around LAX, among other things. Work on the Automated People Mover System continues, but the opening of the rail line has been pushed back to November 2025.

The driverless rail project, part of a $30 billion overhaul of the airport, was expected to open in 2023.

A recent study named LAX as the third-worst airport in North America.
