Controversial JFK book to be reissued in October

NEW YORK (AP) — One of the most controversial books about John F. Kennedy, William Manchester's "The Death of a President," is being reissued as an e-book and paperback.

Little, Brown and Company announced Monday that "Death of a President" will be available Oct. 8. It's currently out of print.

Manchester's book had been authorized by the Kennedy family soon after JFK's murder but was delayed after Jacqueline Kennedy threatened legal action to stop publication. She objected to plans to serialize the book and reportedly was concerned about passages that criticized then-President Lyndon Johnson, who had a tense relationship with the Kennedys.

Some material was removed. The book was published in 1967 and became a best-seller.

Numerous books are coming out this fall to mark the 50th anniversary of Kennedy's assassination.
