LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bradley Cooper missed out on the Oscar for "Silver Linings Playbook," but he got the Golden Popcorn.

The actor was the first winner of the night at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards, accepting the popcorn-shaped prize from Melissa McCarthy for his performance in the Oscar-nominated flick.

He was in good company, joined by an Oscar winner and fellow nominee: Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson won the Best WTF Moment award for their scenes in "Django Unchained."

"This is awesome," Jackson said. "This is a fan award. if it wasn't for all of you, we wouldn't have this golden popcorn

The MTV Movie Awards are as much about the anticipated movies of the upcoming summer season as they are about the winning films of last year.

Rebel Wilson is hosting the ceremony at Sony Pictures Studios. "Django Unchained" and "Ted" are the top nominees in the irreverent competition, where fans vote online for the winners in categories such as best fight, best kiss and best shirtless performance.

Wilson is also a nominee, up for female performance and breakthrough performance for her work in "Pitch Perfect." Stars from that film will open the movie awards with a musical medley.

The show also promises extended footage from next month's "Iron Man 3" and the world premiere of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" trailer. Stars from other summer films— including Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto from the "Star Trek" sequel and Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez from the "Fast & Furious" franchise — will appear throughout the ceremony.

Hollywood has increasingly used the fan-driven MTV Movie Awards as a platform to promote its summer product and this year, the show was moved up from June to April to incorporate the entire blockbuster season, which begins in early May.

The two-hour ceremony is also typically peppered with commercials for upcoming films and DVD releases.

Foxx, Will Ferrell and Emma Watson will receive special awards during Sunday night's two-hour broadcast. Brad Pitt, Seth Rogen, Kim Kardashian and Zac Efron are among the expected presenters.

Selena Gomez is set to debut her new song, "Come and Get It," on the show.

"I'm nervous, I really am," she said on the red carpet before the ceremony. "We've worked on it for the past six days, and hopefully it'll pay off."

Steve Carell is set to present the best-kiss prize, noting he's qualified for the job because he's "done a lot of kissing."
