Cory Booker is living proof that love trumps hate.

The New Jersey state senator delivered one of the many moving speeches at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night, earning accolades from his party and fans on Twitter but also the attention of the Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump.

As Booker's speech started to gain traction online, Trump tweeted remarks about the Senator's "future," vaguely eluding that he might have some dirt on Booker.

Booker responded to the tweet on CNN (top video) simply by saying, "I love Donald Trump...I don't want to answer hate with hate. I'm going to answer it with love."

Booker joked that Trump has been attacking so many members of the Democratic party that he'd been feeling "a little left out." He added that these attacks have no merit and are only meant to make people speculate.

"I love you, Donald," he said. "I pray for you. I hope that you find some kindness in your heart, that you’re not going to be somebody who spews out insults to your political opposition, that you’re going to start finding some ways to love."
