There is more to Frankfurt cuisine than the Frankfurter. As an important financial hub, Frankfurt has restaurants that cater for a wide range of tastes—from sushi to pizza to roasted meats to Mediterranean. After a hard day's conference going at HP Discover 2012 in Frankfurt, 4-6 December, you deserve some good eats.
If you're in the mood to try some local cuisine (aside from the Frankfurter), ask for Handkäs mit Musik (literally, "hand cheese with music"), a dish made of slices of cheese covered with raw onions, oil, and vinegar, and served with bread and butter. Or try Rippchen (cured pork chop) served on a mound of sauerkraut. Enjoy these German beers with your meal.
We scoured the reviews websites that locals use—Yelp.de and Qype.com—for recommendations. Here are some of the highly rated establishments. Guten appetit!
Koh Samui gets high ratings from Yelp.de users and is just 3.9 km, or an 8-minute drive, from the Frankfurt Messe exhibition centre. Diners recommend the Panang curry as well as the selection of Thai salads, which some reviewers say is quite spicy. Reviewers also give the decor the thumbs up. One guest, roughly translated from German noted: "The location is simply BOMB! You feel as if you were in Asia or in Thailand. Just for the location there are 3 stars. Which is really nice, the holiday feeling comes as a very fast high." Another reviewer says: "The atmosphere is just amazing. The restaurant is very Thai and makes you feel as though you may be on a beautiful island."

Gasthaus Zum Bären
The two-centuries old Gasthaus Zum Bären is a local-award-winning pub/restaurant that's not to be missed. The restaurant serves traditional German home cooking with an emphasis on fresh ingredients. Local delicacies on the menu include handkäse (hard cheese), a sour milk cheese, which gets its name from how it is made—by the preparer’s hands.
If you're a fan of meat, Zum Bären could be your ideal restaurant. Some dishes on offer include grilled sausages with sauerkraut, homemade jellied meat, and boiled port chop with kraut. Until the end of March, you can order elk steak (Wednesday special) or roasted wildboar (Friday special). One Yelp reviewer (in German) praises the pub's "generous portions" and claims it serves cider at its best. Service is consistently friendly, says the same reviewer. Another reviewer, from the US describes the pub's schnitzel as "a great example: crispy, rich, and tender inside." He adds: "The bärenpfanne was also outstanding, who doesn't love a skillet of potatoes, veggies, and five different kinds of delicious meat?"
