All these people that are preaching doom and gloom are scaring the people who do have jobs into not spending money on anything extra, and the business who have it not to invest it in the American market, because there is not demand. Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy.

the whole system is broken. the founding fathers would intiate a military coup if they were alive. lets hope we still have enough generals more concerned with this country than their pensions. we need them now more than ever, right here at home. to those in authority i hope you hear us. we are behind you. do what you must.

The criminals are calling the shots in this country and those of us who have been stupid enough to be law abiding citizens have gotten nothing for our efforts except pushed further into poverty so the ruling elite can have better health care and pensions.

Unfortunately we are inthe trading economy era where the traders have such great influence with the government. Campaign finance reform is needed. The super wealthy are making every effort to maintain their wealth well into the future. Our governments priority is to serve wall street not main street as they know who butters thir bread. How long can we exist as a trading economy ?

...Not to worry folks...there will not be a depression since the recession is officially over by its new definition: RECESSION, def.: economics--only occurs when more than 45% of the workforce is unemployed...(not sure who to attribute new definition to, but it sure works for me, even if I dont)

TaDa! Current unemployment is now only 9.2%, which means we have a long way to go before recession hits, so lets all put on a happy face and smile...K?

The top "crime" in my opinion is the lack of leadership from this President and his administration. They are simply lost. They apparently have no idea how to fix our economy. They believe that bigger government, higher taxes, more regulation, and stronger unions are the answer-they are the problem. There will be no improvement in our economy untill and unless this president and his administration are gone. The "blame Bush" excuse is getting old. Obama has been in office for nearly three years and things are worse-not better. Pointing his finger at the Repbulicans and in Congress as the reason for our plight is no reason for not coming up with a plan. Don't listen to this man-look at his actions.

Who do you think owns these people? certainly not the citizens.

Thanks Bush for being completely incompetent. Thanks Obama for completely spineless.
    • Dave  •  9 mths ago
      Exactly!

Well said, Robert Lenzer. Well said.

All I know is that the old people in the Tea Party ought to be thanking the Democrats for not allowing Bush and the other Republicans privatize Social Security by allowing retirees to invest in the Stock Market! Both the Extreme Left and the Extreme Right have completely removed any sense of practicality with respect to individual rights and community rights. Extreme Government Control and Extreme Corporation Control have no moral compass!

Good article...failed to mention the crimes committed by Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Waters, Dodd and the rest of the idiots who started this mess. When alarm bells were sounded by their Republican counterparts regarding their failed policies of giving housing to illegals, those without credit, without income, etc. these morons not only refused to take action, but defended Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac as if they were solvent and not in any trouble. It is astounding that these folks have not been held accountable, and many of them are still in power harming this nation! It is truly sad that the Liberal Left continues to defend those who are hell bent on destroying the very life and liberty they've enjoyed throughout their lives. At this rate, there won't be any money left in the U.S. Treasury to fund anything in ten years... Wake up, hold your politicians accountable and get rid of the scum in the Congress and Senate before it is too late....

        You stupid Idiot!!
      • Kirk 9 mths ago
David, well said - you are no idiot. But what is sad here - is there is no fixing this situation w/o complete anarchy and revolution.

Beware the money changers! For it is perceived they only serve one master and his name is GREED.
GREEDS only purpose is to cast the souls of men in to hell.

As a foreign friend of mine said, "I love your country. I can do things that would never fly in my country. You have all the freedom in the world to do things good and bad. Can you tell the difference when you are making so much money?"

The history of our current problems goes back to 1995. Instead of recognizing the need to restrain an economic boom that was getting out of hand, an alliance between the political and financial elite chose to stimulate the boom even more. The first collapse marked by the 2000 stock market crash resulted in renewed efforts to over stimulate construction, real estate speculation, and speculation in financial assets of all kinds. The failure of that policy produced a financial disaster of historic proportions. Still the economics profession, the political elite, and the financial industry leadership do not seem able to learn the lessons of failed policies. They continue to call for more government doles and more mindless attempts to stimulate the economy. Perhaps individual investors and businesses have learned the lessons a little bit better. Perhaps that is why they are not ready to throw their money away every time Ben Bernanke tries to repeat proven mistakes.

I am very angry too and agree with what you said here. The whole Obama team is a joke esp. Larry Summers, who only look out for Wall Street's benefits.
    • David M  •  9 mths ago
Wrong on the equity return comment. Dow Chemical was selling for $8 per share 3 yeras ago. And it pays a nice dividend. Gold is simply silly.

Those trillions of dollars of several government stimulus should have been used for rebuilding and modernizing America’s infrastructure (renew or build new modern airports, naval ports, superfast railway trains in densely populated areas, new bridges, new infrastructure of water resources for securing the water for drinking and agriculture in case of severe droughts, superfast internet and communication system, better strategic satellites, new electric grid and power plants), and not for bailing out Financial Corporations and spending for all kinds of useless government programs.

This would have created real jobs here is America, would have improved the standards of life of people, and the America’s borrowed money which are taxpayer’s money would not have been wasted on corporations, superrich and unnecessary government spending/programs including welfare programs and wars in the middle east.
What a dysfunctional, incapable, corrupt and inefficient government.
    • Phead  •  9 mths ago
The stimulus that didn't work? I can't believe anyone writing in the media has the unmitigated gall to continue calling it the "stimulus" when the money went as payoffs to Obama supporters. There was never anything in the expenditures that would create jobs. When the government pays someone a million dollars for a few people to do a meaningless job that pays a few thousand dollars to them for a few months..........that's not job creation! Who, besides the writer of this article, does NOT understand this simple fact??!!!

The Crime: Allowing banks, including the privately owned FED Reserve, to create all the money it wants out of thin air!

The current estimate of phony money is 1 to 1.5 Quadrillion!
    • A  •  9 mths ago
Obama's term will be remembered as the blaming era, it starts from him and it trickles down.
      • Mark 9 mths ago
You are deluded to think "Obama" orchestrated the downfall of America

The down fall of America began in 1913 when the privately owned FED was permitted to create all the money it wants out of thin air. Since that time, the dollar has lost 98% of its value!
      • Kirk 9 mths ago
        blaming is not orchestrating.
