The Republican super PAC American Crossroads and its affiliate Crossroads GPS is launching new attack ads in six toss-up Senate races, attempting to tar the Democratic challengers with ethical issues and link them to President Obama and his health care initiative.
The $4.6 million campaign includes a spot against Nevada Rep. Shelley Berkley, who will challenge Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., for his seat in November. In the ad, a narrator intones that Berkley “twisted arms to get federal dollars for her husband’s business – a blatant conflict of interest,” and accuses her of not answering questions on the matter.
An ad against Tim Kaine, the former DNC chair who will challenge George Allen in Virginia's senate race, attempts to use Kaine’s words against him while accusing him of leaving Virginia behind in order to “serve the president.”
Crossroads, founded by strategist Karl Rove, will also run ads for Senate races in Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio and Nebraska.
The new ads are in addition to previous Crossroads buys in New Mexico, Indiana and Montana.
