RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The open-air vehicle carrying Pope Francis was momentarily swarmed by a crowd as it headed for a Rio de Janeiro slum.
The pope never appeared to be in danger and the crowd appeared less frenzied than the one that surrounded his motorcade on Monday.
The vehicle was only exposed to the crowd along a 100-yard (meter) stretch of road. Metal barricades held people back elsewhere.
The pope halted the vehicle several times to kiss babies who were brought to him by bodyguards.
