Hotline editors weigh in on the stories that drive the day
• Hillary Clinton is recognizing she can't run a WH '16 campaign as a third Obama term. "I had a very positive set of interactions [with Obama], even when I disagreed, which obviously occurred, because obviously I have my own opinions, my own views," she said in New York Magazine. That's a change from her May interview alongside Obama on "60 Minutes," where she tied herself as closely to the White House as possible -- that is, when the president's approval ratings were much stronger.
• As a GOP governor. Crist wasn't much of a Jeb Bush ally when it came to education reform. But he's found it politically convenient to ally himself with Jeb's education legacy to attack Rick Scott for opposing Common Core standards.
• PA Dems are wondering why Treas. Rob McCord still hasn't officially entered the GOV race. While those outside McCord's circle can speculate about whether he's having second thoughts or simply enjoying the drawn-out drama surrounding his likely entrance into the race, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: the field of Dems vying to take on the vulnerable Gov. Tom Corbett (R) is crowded and filled with uncertainty.
• Rick Snyder for president? The MI gov. dismissed a candidacy as a "distraction" this weekend, but also said he hoped he was a "reasonable model for people to look at across the country." Keep an eye on the tough nerd.
