WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Civil Service Employees Insurance Group (CSE Insurance, www.cseinsurance.com), held their second annual “Blazing Hot Celebrity Chef Competition” charity event at MoMo’s Bar & Grill in San Francisco on Saturday, March 16th. The event brought together a host of local celebrities while raising $13,063.00 for firefighters and their families.
The event challenged three teams of celebrity chefs and firefighters to see whose cuisine reigned supreme. Team Starbelly featured Chef Adam Timney and Frank Roldan of the San Francisco Fire Department, Team Scala’s paired Chef Jen Biesty with Robert Hudson of the Kern County Fire Department, and Team Beretta was comprised of Chef Franco Ruggerro and James Brunson of the Vallejo Fire Department.
Liam Mayclem, host of KPIX-TV’s Eye on the Bay and KCBS Radio’s Foodie Chap emceed the event.
Chefs and community leaders were on hand to judge the event. The panel included Pierre Bize, President and CEO of CSE; Paige Meyer, Fire Chief of the San Ramon Fire Department; and Harry Crusberg Jr., owner of Firefighter Insurance Services, as well as San Francisco chefs Roland Passot of La Folie, and Alicia Jenish of Grand Café.
“Firefighters willingly put themselves in harm’s way every day,” said Mr. Paige Meyer. “The support we receive from our community and from everybody involved in charitable events like this is something that we all appreciate.”
The competition featured two rounds of pizza-making. The first round required the use of mystery ingredients provided by MoMo’s Chef Damon Hall, while the second round called for the teams to showcase their favorite recipe. Entries were judged on a variety of criteria including flavor and creativity.
Picking a winner was no easy feat, but ultimately the judges bestowed top honors upon Team Beretta. Team Starbelly and Team Scala tied for second place.
To recognize the winning team’s achievement, CSE Insurance donated $10,000 to the Fire Family Foundation on behalf of Team Beretta. Firefighter Insurance Services made an additional $2,500 donation, and event attendees donated $563.
“As a proud member of the communities we serve, CSE is pleased to raise awareness of the sacrifices that firefighters and their families make every day,” said Mr. Bize. “We thank everybody who helped make this a memorable afternoon, including the firefighters, the chefs, the judges, the volunteers who helped organize the event, MoMo’s, and everybody who attended.”
All proceeds generated from the event will be donated directly to the Fire Family Foundation (www.firefamilyfoundation.org), an organization that assists firefighters, their families, fire victims, and fire departments.
