CT house fire leaves three people displaced

Multiple people were displaced following a house fire in Middletown on Sunday that prompted mutual aid from a number of neighboring fire departments.

Firefighters were alerted to a possible structure fire in the 300 block of East Street in the Westfield section of Middletown at 6:09 p.m. The first crews on scene encountered heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the home, according to Darrell Ponzio, chief of the Westfield Fire Department.

Crews called for mutual aid from the Middletown, South District, Cromwell, Middlefield and East Berlin Fire Departments.

The blaze was put out with no injuries to residents or firefighters, Ponzio said.

Three residents were left displaced following the fire, according to Ponzio. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The fire remains under investigation by the Westfield Fire Marshal’s Office.
